Isabel Gillard

Isabel is an expatriate Scot, born in Edinburgh and resident in the Midlands since her marriage in 1958. She has earned her living as a teacher of literature with a strong creative writing component and has herself won a number of small awards, mainly for poetry, short stories and articles.

Her other literary hats include occasional broadcasts and a spell as poetry-writing tutor at Keele University. She has compiled and edited numerous anthologies of poetry and a quarterly prose and poetry magazine, Distaff, for West Midlands Arts. She has also written one successful play, a son et lumiere based on village history, and two novels, one of which, Yewberry Fall, won a Book of the Year award judged by Three Counties Radio.

After a fairly busy life, she and her husband enjoy frequent contact with their two daughters and five grandchildren and live in a ‘visited’ cottage in the Midlands keeping the peace between their two cats.
